Pézenas
The soul of a village, between prestigious past and contemporary creativity

Located only 25 minutes from Domaine Tarbouriech, the village of Pézenas offers many discoveries. Allow a whole day to take the time to stroll through the beautiful cobbled streets, admire sumptuous mansions, visit museums and explore the shops of the artists and craftsmen for which the city is famous.

Pézenas has preserved an exceptional architectural heritage thanks to its prestigious past. For more than a century, the presence of the Montmorencys as governors of Languedoc marked the city. The influence of Pézenas was such that it regularly welcomed the States of Languedoc to the Consular House, a superb building classified as a Historic Monument located on the Place Gambetta.
During your visit, be sure to explore the magnificent mansions in the historic centre, such as the Lacoste Hotel and the Flotte Hotel in Sébassan. These buildings, of remarkable architectural finesse, are open to the public free of charge. The Museum of Vulliod Saint Germain, labeled Museum of France, houses a collection of furniture from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as well as works of art and earthenware from the eighteenth century.
A stronghold
Pézenas is also famous for being the city of Molière and Boby Lapointe. Even if Molière was not born in Pézenas, it was here that he revealed himself as a man of the theatre. Pézenas was then a stronghold of the Ancien Régime and during the Estates General of Languedoc, Molière and his troupe of actors were asked to entertain the local aristocracy. Boby Lapointe, a native of the region, is a famous songwriter whose joyful songs remain engraved in our memories.
In addition to its cultural heritage, Pézenas is home to many artists and craftsmen. The stalls are full of unique creations, ranging from pottery to jewellery, sculpture and painting. The city actively supports these creators by offering affordable rents, which encourages their presence and work on site.
To discover the talent of local and national craftsmen, go to the Maison des Métiers d’art, located on Place Gambetta. This boutique space exhibits and sells unique or limited edition pieces, representing the exceptional know-how of the craftsmen.
Pézenas, a village of history, culture and creativity, invites you to immerse yourself in its unique atmosphere and appreciate its artistic and architectural treasures.
