Marseillan

its port, its canal, its vermouth

Welcome to Marseillan, a charming port city that offers a multitude of activities. Your first stop is the port of Marseillan-Ville, once a fishing and trading port turned into a picturesque marina, where you can stroll along the quays and admire the 350 moored boats. Don’t miss the merchant houses and monumental cellars, including that of the famous Noilly Prat house.

Take this opportunity to explore the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Embark on board the Bateaux du Soleil or Midi Cap Thau for a cruise along the 250 kilometres of the canal. This experience will also allow you to discover the lagoon of Thau, Marseillan and Sète.

Nature lovers will be enchanted by the Bagnas reserve, located between Marseillan and Cap d’Agde. This 561-hectare nature reserve offers many hiking opportunities, including along the Canal du Midi, Mont Saint-Loup, near the Onglous lighthouse, the Maraval estate or the observation area of the main road. Keep your eyes peeled for the 250 species of birds that inhabit the reserve, or join one of the guided tours offered by the House of Nature.

For spirits lovers

Don’t miss a visit to the Noilly Prat house, where French vermouth has been made since 1813. Explore the cellars in the company of the cellar master, admire the impressive collection of vermouths and taste their unique aromas. You can also take part in a workshop to learn the art of cocktails and oenology, then enjoy your creations in the courtyard of the house. Don’t forget to take a bottle of the exclusive collection with you, sold only in Marseillan.

If you prefer wines, go to the Richemer cellars. You will be spoiled for choice among several cellars. At the Cave de la Plage, enjoy tapas after a pleasant bike ride, as the place is labelled “Accueil Vélo”. At the Perle de Thau, immerse yourself in the world of white and rosé wines from the lagoon thanks to an interactive tour and show. Finally, at the Port cellar, after a tasting of their wines, enjoy a boat trip in the Thau archipelago, along the Canal du Midi or on the Hérault river.
